Noranda Emerald Football Club

Noranda City Football Club is an amateur football (soccer) club competing in the Football West leagues in Perth, Western Australia, and is based at the Morley Noranda Recreation Club.

Our History

Noranda City FC was originally formed as Morley City in 1977 by John Tinkler and Nick Stoney. The club was established following an internal dispute with the Morley Rovers, a group of players made up of Morley Depot bus drivers.

In its early years, Morley City had several home grounds, including John Forrest Senior High School, Gibbney Reserve, and Elstead Park.

In 1996, Morley City moved to the Noranda Sporting Complex and at that time consisted of one Masters team. Noranda Sporting Complex has been the club’s home for over 20 years, during which time a strong relationship has been maintained with the Morley Noranda Recreation Club.

During the 2000 season, a club known as Noranda Wolves agreed to share the ground. They brought with them a number of junior teams and a strong focus on women’s football, which marked the beginning of what is now Noranda City’s thriving junior program.

In 2004, a sponsorship deal resulted in the club being renamed DVG Morley City. The committee decided to place a stronger focus on the Social Leagues (now known as the Metropolitan League), and the club expanded to include two additional teams. This period culminated in the club winning the Premier League in 2006.

In 2008, Morley City entered the Amateur Leagues, initially fielding a reserve team. In 2014, Noranda City was officially formed.

Progressive committees from Morley City and Noranda Wolves developed a master plan to merge the two clubs and create a clear pathway for players to remain at one club, transitioning from junior to senior football. The club name was chosen to reflect the history of both organisations, with the Noranda Wolves name continuing as a women’s team playing at Emberson Reserve.

The years since Noranda City was formed have been some of the most active and successful in recent memory, and it is a trajectory the club’s committees are committed to continuing.

Many great players, coaches, sponsors, and characters have contributed to the Noranda City story, and the club looks forward to reconnecting with many of them during its 40th anniversary celebrations.
