Celebrating 50 Years of community involvement
Morley Noranda Recreation Club – Celebrating 50 Years
Founded in 1976, the Morley Noranda Recreation Club has grown from humble beginnings into a vibrant community hub — and in 2026, we are proud to celebrate 50 years of connection, sport, and community.
Our story began simply, with a conversation. A group of local bowlers, keen for something closer to home, gathered over a few beers and shared an idea — to create a place where people in Morley could come together to enjoy a game of bowls and a social drink. From those early discussions, held at the old Morley Park Hotel, a vision took shape.
That vision became reality in July 1976, when a group of passionate locals, together with the Shire of Bayswater, formally established a sporting and recreation club for the community. By September, the club had its name — the Morley Districts Recreational Club, now proudly known as the Morley Noranda Recreation Club.
What followed was a true community effort. The bowling greens opened in the late 1970s and have been in continuous use ever since. Early members and volunteers also built the club’s first bar and clubrooms — affectionately remembered as “the little house on the prairie.” As the club quickly grew, a larger facility was built and officially opened in 1983, forming the foundation of the club we know today.
Over the decades, the club has continued to evolve, shaped by the people who walk through its doors. Today, Morley Noranda Recreation Club is home to a wide range of sporting groups and community organisations, bringing together people of all ages and interests. From bowls, tennis, darts and football, to music, social groups and community services — the club remains a place where connection and participation are at the heart of everything we do.
As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we warmly invite members, past and present, and the wider community to join us in marking this milestone. Celebrations will take place over the weekend of September 12–13, and we look forward to sharing this special occasion with everyone who has been part of our journey.
Morley Noranda Recreation Club has always been built by its community — and it’s that same spirit that will carry us into the future.
We look forward to welcoming you.
